Street Ball Is a Totally Unique Game

“Street Ball” (Street Basketball or Pick-up Basketball) is played on outdoor courts and features significantly less structure and enforcement of the game’s rules than pro-basketball.

The style of the game is different every time depending on your teammates and opponents. When you’re playing Street Ball, you don’t always know everyone you’re playing with and it’s highly likely to be the first and only time your team will ever play together as a unit.

The Dream is “to Make it”

A large number of street players had one dream in mind since childhood: to make it in the NBA. However, according to research conducted by the NCAA, just over 3% of high school men’s basketball players make it into the NCAA, and only 1.2% of college basketball players will be drafted by an NBA team.

“It’s the nature of how elevated sports are in this country, even at the youth level. It creates a high confidence level, but also a delusion around what’s actually possible.” — Dan Lebowitz, Executive director of Northeastern University’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society.
